Security for your OS

There is no reason to pay for security applications for your PC. Uninstall your Norton, McAfee, etc. and install these free alternatives. They use fewer system resources and save you money.
Avast Anti-virus Home Edition - This is a great anti-virus program which includes tons of features and options. It works well and provides automatic definition updates. What more could you ask? If you don’t like Avast for some reason you can try Avira AntiVir PersonalEdition.
EDIT: I now recommend AVG Free once again. They had “discontinued” version 7.1 and told people they would have to purchase the full version if they wanted to keep it. But now they’ve released the free version 7.5 so I’ve switched back and recommend you do so as well.
ZoneAlarm Firewall - This firewall isn’t perfect, but it’s the best I’ve found for free. Even if your router includes a firewall you should run this on each machine to ensure that you have “defense in depth“.

Spybot Search&Destroy - Complete spyware protection system which will find and disable spyware as well as prevent it from even loading. Also includes a system startup manager that allows you to disable all that crap that is slowing down your computer whenever you reboot it, like MS Messenger and Apple Quicktime. (Use ProcessLibrary.com to help decide what to remove.)
Spyware Blaster - Actually prevents spyware and other malware from even being installed on your system. The free version is completely functional but you need to manually tell it to update the definitions periodically which is no big deal.
Startup Inspector for Windows - A program with a singular purpose. Allow you to research and disable software that is automatically starting when you reboot your system. Includes a great “Consult” feature which tells you exactly what most items are.
Windows Defender - Microsoft’s version of SpyBot isn’t quite as comprehensive, but I run it as well in case one picks up something the other one missed. It’s free as long as you’ve got a legal copy of Windows.if not then goto , www.makeyouexp.blogspot.com , read and enjoy !!
McAfee SiteAdvisor - This plugin for IE or FireFox will proactively warn you of sites known to have spyware and other nasty things.

10 Chat Widgets to Consider

10 Chat Widgets to Consider FOR blog or website , free , to increase traffic , share and comment information !!
Embedded chat in a website provides the ability to more closely connect with your readers or customers, depending on the instance. Chat widgets provide real-time feedback and spur thought-provoking discussions - features lacking in e-mail. However the disadvantages should be acknowledged too. In some cases, widgets may slow down the page load or take away from the overall site experience rather than enhance it. However I encourage everyone to give some of the following chat widgets a try and make your own conclusions. Let's take a look at some of the top ones...
MeeboMe
MeeboMe is the leader in the space. This spin-off of the original multiple client chat (Meebo) is a nice, simple chat widget. It features publisher status, user nickname editing, and sound control. Also be sure to check out MeeboRooms, launched earlier this year.
Plugoo
Plugoo is a slick little chat widget that enables you to talk with site visitors via your IM client. In other words, you can work as usual without having to keep an eye on the chat box. Then if someone initiates a chat, a message will pop up on your IM. Great concept.
Mabber
Mabber is a simple, basic chat widget. No frills or gimmicks. It has an easy set-up process and intuitive interface, which makes this a good choice if you're looking to add a little something extra to your site.
Pladeo
Formerly InCircles, Pladeo is beautifully designed Flash chat widget. Some might call it overkill though. Site owners can choose a vertical or horizontal layout, as well as the color. Nicely designed, but it may take away from the rest of your site.
Userplane
Userplane is a more sophisticated chat offering. I found the sign up process to be a bit tedious, but the end product was worth it. The company launched a revenue-sharing program in May of this year. [disclosure: Userplane is a R/WW sponsor]

Geesee
Geesee is highly functional and robust, yet it's also a cumbersome service. I found the interface and color scheme to be a bit childish, although I suppose the service is tailored as a more 'fun' offering than some of the others.
Gabbly
Gabbly is a slick, multi-user chat widget. The service also provides RSS and audio functionality. I found it to be a pretty good overall offering, unless you're looking for something extremely basic.
Chatango
Chatango is a personalized chat widget. The set-up was easy, yet it still provided a high level of customization. The interface wasn't the slickest, but it was intuitive. Overall though, I thought Chatango was mediocre.
Zoho Chat
Zoho Chat was one of my favorite services that I tested. It is extremely easy to set-up and very slick. The widget is very simple to use and professional-looking. [disclosure: Zoho is a R/WW sponsor]
ParaChat
ParaChat is more of an application than a widget. The embedded chat box is a "presence" and feels like it's part of the website. However the look n' feel is very web 1.0 and the ads take away from the experience. Overall, I wasn't overly impressed.
Conclusion
The implementation of a chat widget should be analyzed on a case-by-case basis. Not all websites may benefit, as some people may not have the time or resources to operate the technology. Having said that, the ability to facilitate real-time, pertinent discussions cannot be understated. Check out one or more of the above chat widgets and let us know what you think. Also if you know of other chat widgets or embedded chat programs that we missed, be sure to list them in the comments.

Changing IP !

There are MANY methods to change your IP address. Some methods will work for you but may not work for someone else and vice versa.

If your IP is static, then you CAN’T change your IP address without contacting your ISP.

If you have a long lease time (explained in this article) on your IP then you won’t be able to change your IP without cloning your MAC address, which I’ll explain later in this article.
It definitely helps if you know how the IP is being assigned to you.
What is an IP lease time? IP lease time is the amount of time your ISP determines you’ll be assigned a particular IP address. Some IP lease times are just a few days and other IP lease times could be set for a year or more. This setting is completely up to your ISP.
One of the easier methods to change your IP is to turn off your modem/router/computer overnight. Then turn it back on the following morning. This method WILL NOT work if your ISP has a long lease time set for your IP.
The following method will ONLY work if your computer is being assigned your external IP and not a router.

How to determine if your computer is being assigned the external IP

If your connection is direct to your computer and your computer gets the public IP and not a router, you can try this:
For Windows 2000, XP, and 2003
1. Click Start

2. Click Run
3. Type in cmd and hit ok
4. Type ipconfig /release and hit enter
5. Click Start, Control Panel, and open Network Connections
6. Find and Right click on the active Local Area Connection and choose Properties
7. Double-click on the Internet Protocol (TCP/IP)
8. Click on Use the following IP address
9. Enter a false IP like 123.123.123.123
10. Press Tab and the Subnet Mask section will populate with default numbers
11. Hit OK twice
12. Right click the active Local Area Connection again and choose Properties
13. Double-click on the Internet Protocol (TCP/IP)
14. Choose Obtain an IP address automatically
15. Hit OK twice
16. Go to http://www.whatismyip.com to see if you have a new IP address

For Vista
1. Click Start
2. Click All Programs expand the Accessories menu
3. In the Accessories menu, Right Click Command Prompt and choose Run as administrator
4. Type ipconfig /release and hit enter
5. Click Start, Control Panel, and open Network and Sharing Center. Depending on your view, you may have to click Network and Internet before you see the Network and Sharing Center icon
6. From the Tasks menu on the left, choose Manage Network Connections
7. Find and Right click on the active Local Area Connection and choose Properties (If you’re hit with a UAC prompt, choose Continue)
8. Double-click on Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4)
9. Click on Use the following IP address
10. Enter a false IP like 123.123.123.123
11. Press Tab and the Subnet Mask section will populate with default numbers
12. Hit OK twice
13. Right click the active Local Area Connection again and choose Properties
14. Double-click on Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4)
15. Choose Obtain an IP address automatically
16. Hit OK twice
17. Go to http://www.whatismyip.com to see if you have a new IP address
Some people have inquired about manually assigning their IP address. This IS possible, but you run a very high risk of your ISP banning you from connecting to the internet. To manually change your IP, follow the steps above for your Operating System. In step 9 or 10, depending on your O/S, enter an IP similar to the one displayed in the command prompt window. For example, if the IP displayed in the command prompt window is 75.1.2.3, change yours to 75.1.2.4. You’ll also need to manually enter the Subnet, Gateway and DNS Server IP addresses as well. If the new IP you give your computer doesn’t work, chances are someone else on the ISP network has already been assigned that IP. You’ll need to move on to the next one and keep trying until you find an open one. However, some ISPs match up your MAC or modem data to the IP that’s been assigned. If those 2 things don’t match up, you won’t be able to connect no matter what. If your router gets the IP and not your computer, you’ll need to http in to your routers interface and manually assign the IP there. It’s pretty much the same method as assigning the IP to your computer. The method that varies is in how you reach your routers interface. You can get the instructions from your manufacturer’s website. Our Router Support page can help point you in the right direction.
MAC Cloning. What is a MAC address? A MAC address is a physical hardware address assigned to each device that has the capability of connecting to a network. The internet is nothing more than a large network. The MAC address is something that is assigned in the chip on the device and is not something the user can change. MAC cloning can only be done at your router providing it has those capabilities. Most ISPs assign their IPs based on the MAC address in your equipment. If the MAC address of your router is 00-11-22-33-44-55 and you connect to your ISP, the DHCP server records your MAC and assigns an IP. If you disconnect from the ISP, you lose your IP address. The next time you connect, the DHCP server sees your MAC, looks to see if it has assigned an IP address to you before. If it has and the lease time has not expired, it will most likely give you the same IP address you had before disconnecting. Why clone a MAC address? New MAC address most likely equals new IP. How to clone your MAC and if your router has this feature is dependent on the router itself. You’ll need to find the instructions on the manufacturer’s website. Our Router Support page can help point you in the right direction.

What is ip ?

An Internet Protocol (IP) address is a numerical identification (logical address) that is assigned to devices participating in a computer network utilizing the Internet Protocol for communication between its nodes. Although IP addresses are stored as binary numbers, they are usually displayed in human-readable notations, such as 208.77.188.166 (for IPv4), and 2001:db8:0:1234:0:567:1:1 (for IPv6). The role of the IP address has been characterized as follows: "A name indicates what we seek. An address indicates where it is. A route indicates how to get there."

The original designers of TCP/IP defined an IP address as a 32-bit number and this system, now named Internet Protocol Version 4 (IPv4), is still in use today. However, due to the enormous growth of the Internet and the resulting depletion of the address space, a new addressing system (IPv6), using 128 bits for the address, was developed (RFC 1883).

The Internet Protocol also has the task of routing data packets between networks, and IP addresses specify the locations of the source and destination nodes in the topology of the routing system. For this purpose, some of the bits in an IP address are used to designate a subnetwork. The number of these bits is indicated in CIDR notation, appended to the IP address, e.g., 208.77.188.166/24.

With the development of private networks and the threat of IPv4 address exhaustion, a group of private address spaces was set aside by RFC 1918. These private addresses may be used by anyone on private networks. They are often used with network address translators to connect to the global public Internet.

The Internet Assigned Numbers Authority (IANA) manages the IP address space allocations globally. IANA works in cooperation with five Regional Internet Registries (RIRs) to allocate IP address blocks to Local Internet Registries (Internet service providers) and other entities.
even you have a unique IP different than others all over the world !

HOW TO DEAL SURABAYA VIRUS

Many people are facing problem with the new USB worms coming up,one such worm is Surabaya Virus[As it calls itself by that name!]

Some info:Surabaya is the second largest city in Indonesia, the name and language suggests that the worm was actually originated in Indonesia by some spammer.Ok,enough about it’s history,Let’s get into the details of the worm’s operation.

When the virus enters your system, the following message would come up:

“Surabaya in my birthday
Don't kill me, i'm just send message from your computer

And it creates a lot of ‘.SCR’ files and also changes Shell Extensions for all Drives(C,D,E,F,G,H..whatever).

So when you try to open any drive,or if you right-click on any drive you’ll be amazed to find “Test,Configure” instead of standard “Open/Explore”.

It also changes the registry to hide all the hidden folders and also disables ‘FOLDER OPTIONS’.

Let’s See How to Remove Surabaya virus

THE SOLUTION:

>>STEP1
:First,Delete file ‘Autorun.inf’ which allows the malicious script to run automatically when you click/double click on the drive.

If you are not able to delete it from Windows Explorer, then you can try using ‘DOS Command Prompt’. To enter into this,

Go to Start Menu>Click on RUN>Type ‘cmd’ ,Click ‘OK’.

Now the command prompt will be opened up,

the default root will be ‘C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator>’

You have to change it to ‘C:\’,to do that type ‘cd..’ twice and it’ll take you to ‘C:\’.

Now type attrib autorun.inf -s -h –r[And Hit ‘Enter’-This is to change attributes if the file so that we can delete it]

Now Type ‘DEL autorun.inf’

>>STEP2:The Second step is very important because you need to work with ‘Windows Registry’

Warning:Any unwanted mistakes in the registry,I’ll guarantee you that your OS will be dumped.

Ok let’s start it:

As in the first step,go to Start>Click on RUN>type ‘REGEDIT’ and press ‘ok’.

[Note:’REGEDIT’ stands for Windows Registry Edit]

How to Remove Surabaya virus

Then Click on>“HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE”[Click onthe ‘+’ sign]

Then find ‘SOFTWARE’ and Again Click on the ‘+’ sign next to it.

Registry Editor

Next Find ‘Microsoft’ under it and then ‘WINDOWS NT’

Next ‘CURRENT VERSION’ and finally find ‘WINLOGON’.

The path you’ve followed is HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE>SOFTWARE>Microsoft>CURRENT VERSION’ >WINLOGON

on the right windows (under data) modify or delete “LegalNoticeCaption” & “LegalNoticeText”.

Winlogon

This removes any message coming up in the start up.

>>STEP3:Let’s see how to enable FOLDER OPTIONS to show hidden files

Follow START>RUN>Type CMD>Type REGEDIT

Navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\
CurrentVersion\Explorer\Advanced\Folder\
Hidden\SHOWALL

Folder Options

If CheckedValue = "0" the change it to “1” as shown above.

This will enable the ‘FOLDER OPTIONS’ and will show hidden files/folders if checked.

This will only stop from running again, but will not actually kill it,You have use good Anti-Virus Softwares like Kaspersky Anti-Virus/AVG/BItDefender
i 1st tried quick heal , but strangely absolutely did not healed , maybe it will develope !! till then these 3 are best !!
